Tuesday August 19th 2009

Fulham Football Club's hosted the regional finals of Lambeth's Summer Football World Cup on Monday August 17, which saw a win from the team at Kids' City.

Involving boys and girls across the borough, and organised by Lambeth Council and Fulham Football Club, the tournament is part of Lambeth’s summer activities programme.

Kids' City is a London based play, educational and training charity that runs out of school play activities for children and is committed to spreading good practice in the playwork arena.

Kids’ City Sports Co-ordinator, Duncan McDermid, is proud of the team, “Sporting activities are always very popular at Kids’ City and to be able to expand our activities and see great successes such as this one is invaluable”.

“Kids’ City are passionate about creating opportunities for young people to learn through and a part of that is to teach young people to lead healthy, active lifestyles and increase physical activity”.

"This year we had a positive response for sponsors and funding in the sports department and for the summer holiday programmes we compiled a wider range of activities than ever before".

The Lambeth Summer World Cup is part of a bigger event called The Activate Sports Festival, which is the first of a series of sporting and cultural events planned as a celebration to kick off Lambeth’s preparations for the 2012 Olympics.

The children involved have been playing matches over the Summer and will go on to compete in the South London final at Kennington Park on Saturday 5th September.
“Congratulations are in order for all of the talented young players who participated this year, though they are already winners, we wish them all the best for the South London final and look forward to competing again next year," said Jackie Nunns, CEO of Kids’ City.

The winners will get to parade their winning trophy in front of the Fulham FC fans at one of the Fulham home games.
